Department of Microbiology -Overview

Microbiology is the study of microorganisms whether they are eukaryotic (true nuclei) such as fungi and protozoa or prokaryotic such as bacteria and algae, in addition to viruses.  Microbiology is concerned with identifying and recognizing microorganisms and their activities in the various environments, their importance in the food cycle and their role in biodegradation and reclaiming polluted environments. This science includes the study of diseases of plants, animals and man caused by microbes and ways to protect from them.  It also covers industrial and biotechnological aspects to which microorganisms form the basis of their developments along with molecular biology.
